On April 1st, local FFA members participated in the West Virginia State FFA Horse Evaluation Career Development Event and Hippology Contest on the West Virginia University JW Ruby Research Farm in Reedsville, West Virginia. Students from both Jefferson FFA and Washington FFA competed in these competitions and the results are posted below:
Horse Evaluation CDE (13 teams)
In the horse evaluation contest, students evaluated six classes of halter and performance horses and then articulated their placings to a judge for an oral reasons score for two classes.
Washington FFA placed first as a team.
Team members include Ruby Plummer, Madison Roggenkamp, Madison O’Brien, and Hannah Howe. Individually, all members placed in the top ten. Ruby Plummer finished second individually, Madison Roggenkamp placed third, Madison O’Brien placed sixth, and Hannah Howe placed ninth.
Jefferson FFA placed first as a team.
Team members include Madi Dunn, Ashlee Study, Abigail Shanley, and Briley Bauer. Maci Dunn was the top-place individual in the contest. Ashlee Study placed fourth individually, and Abigail Shanley placed eighth.
Hippology Contest (13 teams)
Washington FFA placed first as a team. Team members include Ruby Plummer, Madison Roggenkamp, Madison O’Brien, and Hannah Howe. Madison Roggenkamp was the top-placing individual in the contest, followed by Ruby Plummer in first. Madison O’Brien placed sixth individually.
Jefferson FFA placed third as a team. Team members include Madi Dunn, Ashlee Study, Abigail Shanley, and Briley Bauer. Maci Dunn finished eighth place individually.
Washington FFA’s Horse Evaluation Team claimed its first-ever state title in the contest and will represent West Virginia at the national contest in November 2023 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
