Jefferson County Schools JROTC students presented a remarkable donation of $90,409 to the JCS Shoe and Coat Fund at the Jefferson County Board of Education (JCBOE) meeting on January 27, 2025. This year’s contribution sets a new record, surpassing last year’s total by more than $30,000.

JROTC instructor Major Phillip Suydam highlighted the importance of the annual fundraiser, describing it as the program’s most meaningful community service project.

“Service is a cornerstone of our mission, and this initiative holds special meaning for the cadets,” he said.

The Shoe and Coat Fund, managed by the JCS Social and Emotional Support Department (SoMo), provides essential winter clothing and footwear to students in need. Established over 30 years ago by JCS teachers, the fund now supports hundreds of students each year, thanks to the generosity of the community, local businesses, and the exceptional fundraising efforts of the JROTC.

Major Suydam said knowing their contributions directly assist classmates adds an extra sense of purpose for the cadets.

“We’re proud to be a significant source of support for the Shoe and Coat Fund,” he said. “Our cadets take this responsibility seriously, and it shows in their dedication.”
