The West Virginia Music Educators Association (WVMEA) has officially announced its 2025 Honor Ensembles, and we are thrilled to celebrate the outstanding achievements of both Jefferson High School (JHS) and Washington High School (WHS)!
Jefferson High School Chamber Choir named 2025 WVMEA Honor Choir
The JHS Chamber Choir has been named the 2025 Honor Choir for the state of West Virginia! This prestigious recognition highlights the choir’s exceptional skill, hard work, and passion for music. Under the leadership of their dedicated director, Ms. Hannah Myers, the Chamber Choir will take the stage in Charleston, WV, in early March to perform at the annual WVMEA State Conference.
Washington High School achieves dual honor band recognition and director accolades
Meanwhile, WHS earned both the WVMEA Honor Jazz Band and Honor Concert Band titles this year. The Jazz Ensemble earned the title of 2025 WVMEA High School Honor Jazz Band for the second time in three years, while the Wind Ensemble received the 2025 WVMEA High School Honor Concert Band designation for the first time. Both groups will perform at the WVMEA State Conference in March, with the Jazz Ensemble on March 6 and the Wind Ensemble on March 7. These honors highlight the talent and hard work of WHS students and their director, Ms. Lisa Hazlett, the only female high school band director in West Virginia to lead a state honor band. This double recognition demonstrates how much effort and teamwork went into this achievement.
