JANUARY 31, 2024: We would like to provide an update on an external threat reported this morning. Working with our partners in law enforcement, Jefferson County Schools has learned that no credible threat existed to the communities of North Jefferson Elementary School, T.A. Lowery Elementary School, Wildwood Middle School, or Jefferson High School. Upon being detained, law enforcement determined that the suspect in question was training for the U.S. armed forces while wearing a weight belt and did not threaten any of our school communities. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

WHS experienced some minor flooding in one of our hallways earlier today. Due to the area of the water, we held students in their 3rd period class until we cleaned it up and made it safe for student travel. This was only a minor delay, and we were able to move students to the rest of their classes with no issues.

The annual "Cocoa Cart" made its way through the halls of Washington High School today to offer teachers a sweet treat ahead of the holidays! As it traveled from classroom to classroom, WHS Athletic Director Dale Shaffer was on hand to read a holiday classic to students while their teachers took a short break to enjoy some holiday goodies. Now in its second year, the Cocoa Cart was organized by Assistant Principal Jamie Ritzenthaler to show appreciation to teachers and staff heading into the winter break. Special thanks to our WHS FCCLA student "elves" who assisted in this fun and festive new school tradition!

As a reminder, there will be a Financial Aid / FSA ID Workshop this Thursday, November 30th at 6pm in the Media Center. This is a great opportunity to learn more about financial aid, and you'll have the chance to get assistance creating your FSA ID. The FSA ID is a required element of the FAFSA, or Free Application for Federal Student Aid, and it is recommended to set the FSA ID up prior to the FAFSA becoming available sometime next month. We hope to see you there!
