Did you know that students and families have 3 days after the student returns to school to submit an absence note to the school to have an absence excused? After the third day, the absence becomes unexcused and may not be excused with an absence note. Please do not wait to submit your absence note. Submit your absence note with the reason for the absence as soon as possible but no more than three school days after the student returns to school from an absence.

Greetings from Senator Capito’s office!

An appointment to a U.S. Service Academy is a fully funded education opportunity valued from $240,000 to more than $400,000.

Last year, students attending or who have attended schools in Berkeley, Cabell, Greenbrier, Harrison, Jefferson, Marion, Mercer, Morgan, Ohio, Putnam, Randolph, Wayne and Wood counties received appointments to United States Service Academies and Preparatory Schools. Most accepted their appointments and began their journeys this summer.

We will also have representatives from local ROTC programs on hand to discuss ROTC scholarship opportunities. Mock interviews will be offered and a representative from the Dept. of Defense’s Medical Examination Review Board will join us on Saturday, September 27, 2025 and Sunday, September 28, 2025.

Academy Day is an opportunity for students, parents, guardians, and school officials to ask questions and obtain information regarding the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, U.S. Military Academy and the U.S. Naval Academy as well as the ROTC scholarship process.

The staff and administration of Washington High School encourage you to attend the "Meet the Teacher" night from 6:00-7:45 pm on Thursday, August 28, 2025. This is an opportunity to meet each of your child's teachers and hear a brief overview of the class. This in not a traditional Parent-Teacher Conference, but there will be some time to revisit some of your child's teachers.

Parents should use. the event entrance to WHS and report directly to your student's first period class. You will follow your student's schedule for the evening. It is not necessary for students to accompany their parents.

A student schedule layout form will be sent home with your student. Please have your student complete his or her schedule on that form. Maps will be provided. Any room beginning with 2 indicates a second floor classroom.

We appreciate your presence this evening and participating in your child's education.
